OccasionGenius makes it easy for anyone to find unexpected local ideas for any occasion. Filter by group size, price, zip code and just about anything else.
For local merchants, OccasionGenius is the most effective and affordable marketing solution for their event ideas to be discovered, shared, and reviewed.
OccasionGenius originally began as PartyRVA (RVA is for “Richmond, VA”) on January 1, 2015 as the go-to platform connecting people planning private events and the local businesses that host them.
Nate Marcus, the founder, was an iron chef team building instructor at a local cooking school, and he heard again and again from corporate team organizers that they needed better ideas for their next event.
In 2015, its first year, PartyRVA helped 77,000 locals find unique private event opportunities. Its innovative platform won 3 awards including Best Regional Startup 2015 in the i.e.* Competition, Best New Startup in the START!Peninsula 4.0, and Best Pitch in Capital One Labs. PartRVA was selected by Lighthouse Labs RVA Accelerator to become ready for national growth.
In 2016, the platform was accelerated by the DC I-Corps Regional Training Program and included in Virginia’s promising Startup Spotlight Alley by RVA Venture Forum. The rebrand launched in September 2016 as OccasionGenius, a platform that sprawled events, parties and dates - with features that make its users feel like a genius while planning.
In 2017 OccasionGenius completed its 2nd round of funding to launch in multiple cities beyond Richmond, and is on track to become a national marketplace by 2018.
OccasionGenius is an innovative online platform that makes it easy to find local ideas you might not have known existed. Our team highlights little-known hidden gems that can host great events for team outings, bachelor/bachleorette parties, gatherings of friends, graduations, birthday parties, anniversaries, receptions, galas, fundraisers and date nights. Our listings contain the most information that you can find - often more information than a business' own website. OccasionGenius is free to use for people planning private events.
You got it! Planners tell us how frustrating it is to make decisions as a group. OccasionGenius makes it quick and easy to make a decision, without the friction and never-ending email chains. First, save as many ideas as you like. Then under the heart icon at the top of the site, click on "Share Favorites". You can send the url with your ideas to send to your group. OccasionGenius adds up the votes.
It's easy to forget to plan ahead. When you create a reminder, we will send a simple email reminding you that it's time to come back to OccasionGenius to reach out to a great idea.
If you have a business that is great for special occasions, we would love to learn more. Our team approves listings based on testimonials and uniqueness of the idea. If approved, our team will create the write-up in a voice our users appreciate - showcasing uniqueness, but without over-the-top, salesy language that planners can trust. We're always interested in having a conversation! Please send us a linkedin link and tell us a bit about what draws you to OccasionGenius. We do try to follow up with everyone who reaches out.
