Runnin’ Solo: Most Beautiful Places to Run in Charlotte

We always want to inspire you to discover some fun in Charlotte. So, whenever you are running’ solo or want to snag a partner, you will definitely want to experience these beautiful trails.


The versatile trails at the U.S. National Whitewater Center are perfect for when you want to add a little difficulty to your next run or just want a change of scenery. The 4 trails vary from flat and smooth to step runs along the banks of the Catawba River. The 6 mile system of interconnected trails, with optional loops are great for short to long mile runs or multi-hour training sessions.

2. The Dilworth Loop

The Dilworth Loop is home to Charlotte’s first streetcar suburb and you will find the trail surrounded by oak trees and old Victorian homes. The trail begins at Uptown’s at Marshall Park and leads through Little Sugar Creek Greenway where you can run by the Little Sugar Creek stream. The scenic 5.5 mile trail ends through Freedom Park and you can either walk or continue your run back to Uptown.

3. River Walk

If you want to switch up your usual uptown run route, then head south to Rock Hill, SC. Just 17.5 miles outside of the city, Riverwalk is beautiful trail following along the Catawba River. This trail is perfect for a short 1 hour run and will soon have a designated 1-plus mile road circuit for cyclists to train on and a cyclocross track for racing.

4. Mallard and Clarks Creek Greenways

Mallard and Clarks Creek Greenways is pleasant nature run for when you want to change up your usual road route. The mostly flat and shaded trail is perfect for when you want to log miles and get in that long distance running. With few interruptions, you’ll be able to crank out a day’s worth running with a view or some hard core training.

5. Trolley Trail

The Trolley Trail is a 3.3 mile path that leads runners from Charlotte’s Uptown to South End. The flat surfaced trail follows parallel to the commuter rail line, the Light Rail. The wide trail is comfortable for runners, bikers and pedestrians of all kinds and the breweries and restaurant that fall along the trail make for a well deserve post run treat.
